Moldavite Jewelry

Moldavite Gemstone Jewelry is Special Due to its Meteorite Related Origins

Moldavite jewelry is becoming more recognized around the world. The gemstone is a fairly rare one which is found in Czechoslovakia, some of it in a place called Moldauthein, which is part of the origin of the gemstone’s name.

Moldavite a Tektite with Beautiful Properties for Jewelry

Jewelry made with moldavite is prized for its unique look and the fact that it is known as a tektite made by a meteorite.

Moldavite is thought to have been created when a meteorite hit the earth in the Czech region around 14 million years ago. Moldavite is not extraterrestrial itself, but was formed when the meteor hit the earth and melted large quantities of the surrounding earth. The melted earth cooled and formed what we now call moldavite.

Because of its origins, there is a limited amount of the gemstone available on the earth. It is currently being mined, but when the mines are depleted, it is possible that the supplies of moldavite for jewelry will vanish.

This is one reason that moldavite gemstone jewelry is considered valuable and unique. It has a unique greenish hue, which varies from dark green to lighter shades.

The stones are often set in necklaces, rings, earrings and bracelets. It can be either faceted or polished smooth.
